Fampridine is a potassium channel blocker indicated to improve walking in adult patients with multiple sclerosis (MS).

This was demonstrated by an increase in walking speed.

INDICATIONS

Fampridine ER is a potassium channel blocker indicated to improve walking in adult patients with multiple sclerosis (MS).

It is not known if Fampridine ER is safe or effective in children less than 18 years of age.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

The maximum recommended dosage is 10 mg twice daily (approximately 12 hours apart). There is no evidence of additional benefit with doses greater than 10 mg twice daily

WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS

Before taking Kyfamin^® ER, tell your healthcare provider about all of your medical conditions, including if you:

have any other medical conditions.
are allergic to fampridine (4-aminopyridine), the active ingredient in Kyfamin^®ER.
are taking compounded 4-aminopyridine (fampridine, 4-AP).
have a seizure or have ever had a seizure (also referred to as a fit or convulsion).
have kidney problems.
feel aware of your heartbeat (palpitations). Kyfamin^®ER should be administered with caution to patients with cardiovascular symptoms of rhythm and sinoatrial or atrioventricular conduction cardiac disorders.
are prone to infections.
have a history of allergic reactions.
are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Since the drug interactions with Kyfamin^® ER are not limited to the following medicines tell your healthcare provider or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. This includes herbal medicines and other medicines you bought without a prescription.

Tell your healthcare provider before taking Kyfamin^® ER if you are taking any of the following medicines or any other medicines.

medicine which may affect how your kidneys eliminate medicines for example carvedilol, propranolol and metformin

Contraindicated medicines include:
cimetidine - a drug with the indication of peptic ulcer disease
other forms of 4-aminopyridine (4-AP, fampridine)
